History of Castlefarm, Narraghmore
As the fourth generation of Youngs at Castlefarm Peter and Jenny took over the running of the farm when they got married in May 1999. (Peter’s great grandparents started farming here over 100 years ago). Each field has its own name. Castlefarm took its name from the top field (The Castlefield) in which a castle once stood. As a child Peter’s father John used to uncover old coins and horses teeth that had been turned up with the sod during ploughing in the Castlefield. During dry weather the foundations of the castle could be clearly seen. Unfortunately there are no remains on the ground any more. The farm shop and organic certification are the next exciting stage in the farms history. The farm shop sells a range of conventional and organic local food.
