Whats happening on the farm
The arrival of February sees the birth of lots of calves (approx 70) at Castlefarm. All our cows are indoors full time. The herd is split into two, the milkers and the calvers. The couple of cows that are closest to calving are housed in looseboxes. We have calving cameras in the looseboxes. This is linked up to a TV in our bedroom which is a handy way of keeping an eye on calving progress.

School Tours
This month we will welcome the first of our school tours for a farm visit. Our farm is a real working farm with hens, ducks, cows, pigs and a working garden. Children can learn lots about where their food comes from and always go home with a seedling they have planted or home baking that they have made from scratch.
Anyone wanting to know more about school tours should call Michelle on 086-3736402.

Castlefarm allotments
Anyone who is interested in growing their own organic vegetable is welcome to join us on Saturday 28th January at 2.15 when i will be giving a tour of the allotments and a talk on how our allotments work and how a Castlefarm allotment can help you get healthier, fitter and save money! Our allotment contracts run for a year. The cost is €125 for a starter plot (6 x 5 metre), €200 for a double plot and €250 for a treble plot. The cost includes free organic seeding compost, free farmyard manure. We also have a toilet, picnic tables, an allotment shed, regular water points and rabbit proof fencing.
