Naturally Farmed Food

Peter and Jenny are the fourth generation of Young’s to farm at Castlefarm. Visitors to Castlefarm Shop will not only receive a warm country welcome, but will leave having learnt something new about farming and experience a real food and taste sensation.

Jenny and Peter are passionate about food and as custodians of the countryside are equally passionate about the care of their farm animals and environment.

In October 2008 Castlefarm was certified organic by IOFGA. Under organics clover is used to grow the grass and no artificial fertiliser is spread on the land. Everything fed to animals in the organic system is either grown on the farm or certified organic and GM free.

Under REPS 3 (Rural Environmental Protection Scheme) a new organic orchard of native apple trees has been planted at Castlefarm. Soft fruit trees line the orchard. Wild flowers have also been replanted throughout the orchard. The orchard area is a new haven for wildlife and will feed the growing number of Castlefarm bee hives.
