School Tours at Castlefarm

What is a Castlefarm tour?

A tour of Castlefarm allows you to learn about where real food comes from in a fun and safe environment. A walk around the farm allows you to meet our cows, calves, hens, pigs and ducks. You can see our bee hives and visit our milking parlour and foraging hedge. A castlefarm tour is an exciting educational experience for primary school children of all ages and abilities. What are the practicalities?

Castlefarm works all year round what ever the weather so you should wear warm, waterproof old clothes. The farm and gardens are wheelchair accessible and tours are tailored for each group. Michelle is the tour leader and you will often meet the other farmers who work on the farm. A basic tour takes just over an hour, we also have longer activity mornings where groups can pot their own vegetable and help out with the animals. We have programmes to compliment projects being run in schools or youth groups such as environmental and gardening badges.

How do children learn?

All of our tours are age specific and look at elements of the primary school curriculum. Groups get to see how a real live farm works. They get hands on experience from feeding calves to collecting eggs and
planting vegetables. This is backed up by take home information sheets, quizzes and games which can be inked to SESE, Geography and Science. The most important thing is that we can work with teachers to create the perfect tour.
